Three completely new and two reconstructed buildings have been added to the National Archives of Georgia for the last 4 years. The maintenance of archive treasures and construction of new buildings for the archives in the regions continues. Thea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice of Georgia, has opened the building of Kutaisi Central Archive, in which one million documents will be preserved in modern standards storages.

Kutaisi Central Archive is distinguished by its own collections and fonds – here are preserved the documents from the 18th century; and creating appropriate conditions for the protection the archival documents serves for future generations. Besides, another nice building has been added to the city, Kutaisi Central Archive has a new building for the first time, designed and built for special archival purposes. The archives are equipped with modern ventilation-conditioning and fire-resistant systems that are relevant to international standards. 

At the opening ceremony there was arranged a summer cinema, where the short feature films - "Hedgehog" and "Old People" were shown.

Kutaisi Central Archive was established in 1921. Presently, the documents of Kutaisi Regional Division (1846-1918), Kutaisi city assembly (1837-1917 years), Diocese of Imereti (1819-1921) and other funds, created from the 18th century to present days are preserved in Kutaisi Central Archive. Among the unique documents you will find the books of the kings of Imereti - Solomon I and Solomon II; population census materials, Grant Charters; autographs of Ilia Chavchavadze, Akaki Tsereteli, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, Grigol Robakidze, Galaktion Tabidze; documents and other materials reflecting the foundation of Kutaisi classical and Kutaisi noble gymnasiums.

905 432 documents of Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Samtredia, Oni, Ambrolauri, Tsageri, Lentekhi, Khoni, Vani, Baghdati, Sachkhere, Chiatura and Tkibuli 4 334 archival fonds will be stored in the modern standard Kutaisi Central Archive.

At the end of 2012, Minister of Justice, Thea Tsulukiani announced the support of the National Archives as a priority direction. In recent years, the infrastructural base of the National Archives has been renewed and increased for the first time in its existence. For the first time in recent decades the new and modern building of the National Archives was built in Rustavi (Kvemo Kartli Regional Archive) and Kutaisi (Kutaisi Central Archive); in 2016 the Exhibition Pavilion of the National Archives was opened, where also is located Mediathek, shop of Branded Products and Café; Completely modernized and renovated archive buildings in Zugdidi and Telavi.
