Construction of the Archive’s Building in Akhaltsikhe Re-started

Construction of Samtskhe-Javakheti regional archive’s building in Akhaltsikhe was re-started with the modified project. As per the recommendation of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia, the process continues with renovated architectural planning structure. The construction process has been suspended since then, archaeological remains of the 17th-19th centuries building were found in construction site.

As soon as the archaeological object was discovered, the specialists of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection were involved in the study. Archaeological Survey was conducted by Ivane Javakhishvili Samtskhe-Javakheti Historical Museum. As per the archaeological work report, it was necessary to protect and preserve the cultural and archaeological layers of the buildings, therefore, due to the recommendation of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, the architectural planning structure of the design building has been changed, ensuring that the archaeological layer will be maintained and not damaged.

Envisaging this recommendation, the original project was renewed, agreed with the Monument Protection Agency and the Akhaltsikhe Municipality Architecture Service and the works re-started on April 2, 2019.

May 2020 is the estimated date of completion of construction. Ordered by LEPL National Agency of Public Registry, construction is carried out by Ltd "Khomeriki and Company", which won the tender.
